Buckelew's Supported Housing

Supported Housing

This  year, more than 450 clients live in safe, affordable community housing in Marin, Sonoma and Napa Counties because of Buckelew Programs. 94% of our Supported Housing clients succeeded in maintaining their community living. Without Buckelew, many would be institutionalized or on the street. Stable housing is the first step towards recovery from mental illness and substance abuse.

Buckelew's Supported Employment

Blue Skies Cafe

With unemployment rates as high as 90% for people with severe mental illness, we are proud that 63% of our Supported Employment clients secured competitive jobs this year. Our Blue Skies Cafés in Marin and Napa provide excellent training opportunities that help our clients achieve their employment goals on their road to recovery and self-sufficiency.

Helen Vine Recovery Center

The Vine

Thanks to a generous grant from Kaiser Permanente Northern California Community Benefit Program, we are now able to complete the remodel of the kitchen at Helen Vine Recovery Center and implement a nutrition education program that will promote healthy eating in recovery.

FSA’s North Bay Suicide Prevention Project completed its second year.  Funded by the California Mental Health Services Authority through 2014, Marin’s 24/7 Suicide Prevention & Crisis Hotline successfully expanded  to reach Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino Counties with the goal of reducing the high suicide rates in the North Bay. Over 2,700 people called the Hotline in 2012-13, an increase of 32% over the previous year.

From the Executive Director

It’s been an exciting year here at Buckelew Programs, and I am honored that in January I was chosen to serve as Buckelew’s Executive Director. During these past several months, I have seen the difference that our services make in people’s lives:

• People like “George”, who was living on the street, tormented by voices and physically ill. Because of Buckelew Programs’ Supported Housing, he now has a safe place to live, and is taking care of his health.

• “Lucy”, who nearly died from alcohol poisoning the last time she was taken to the Emergency Room. Because of Buckelew Programs’ Helen Vine Recovery Center, she is now clean and sober for over a year.

• “Marie”, a survivor of sexual abuse, who saw no way out of her nightmare of pain, shame and fear. Because of Buckelew Programs’ Family Service Agency of Marin’s Suicide Prevention and Crisis Hotline, she was able to see the first glimmer of hope. Today, she is in counseling, and looking forward to graduating from high school.

We couldn’t do what we do without you. It’s your support that helps people like George, Lucy and Marie. It’s your support that saves lives.

This is the season of giving – and the season of giving thanks. All of us here at Buckelew Programs are so grateful for the support we receive from people like you!

Thank you!
Steve Eckert

Mark Your Calendar: Dec. 3 is #GivingTuesday

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a day for giving back. This year, Buckelew Programs is proud to be a partner in this global philanthropic grass roots effort.
