The Many Faces of Buckelew Programs

The Many Faces of Buckelew Programs

When we put a face on mental health and addiction issues, we see the person behind the statistic; we see the faces of neighbors, friends and family.

The many faces of Buckelew Programs tell many stories… stories of hope and recovery; stories of bravery and resilience; stories of caring and community. And it’s because of your generous contributions that these stories can be told. We wouldn’t be here without the critical support we receive from you – our community – and for that we are deeply grateful.

This year more than 12,000 people received Buckelew services that improved their lives, including housing, independent living skills and job training, early mental health screening, counseling, suicide prevention, and addiction recovery support.

Read more stories of hope and change in Buckelew Programs' Annual Report for 2014 - 2015. Thank you for your support in bringing homes, jobs, health and hope to those who need it most!

Spotlight on Residential Support Services: Karen's Story

Spotlight on Residential Support Services: Karen's Story

When 25-year-old “Karen” came to Buckelew Programs 10 months ago, she had been hospitalized multiple times and was struggling with psychosis, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. She had also recently become homeless. Karen moved into one of our Residential Support Services (RSS) sites, a cozy single family home shared with other clients in a quiet residential neighborhood in San Rafael. At RSS, staff is on site 24/7 to provide meals, medication supervision, help with independent living skills and symptom management, vocational and educational support, as well as social activities. Residents can stay as long as they need. Some have lived in RSS for 20 years, others move on to more independent living when they are ready, such as our Marin Assisted Independent Living (MAIL) Program. Karen’s experience at RSS turned her life around.

The photo is one of two RSS homes that benefited from a generous grant by Tamalpais Pacific Foundation this year, enabling us to replace all windows with new, energy-efficient ones.

Please support our 2015 Holiday Appeal

Emotional pain is not as obvious as a broken leg. It’s easier to hide. And too often, the stigma attached to mental health and addiction stops us from seeking help. Yet each one of us could be confronted with a sudden crisis that shatters our world: mental illness, grief and loss, abuse and trauma.

This year more than 12,000 people received Buckelew services that improved their lives, including housing, independent living skills and job training, early mental health screening, counseling, suicide prevention, and addiction recovery support.

Please make a gift today to help us maintain these vital services! We are so grateful for your partnership.
