What We Do

Buckelew has been instrumental in developing and coordinating inRESPONSE, Santa Rosa’s innovative mobile mental health support team that launched in 2022. inRESPONSE is dispatched to non-emergency situations where mental health is the primary concern––delivering vital care while diverting calls from police and fire. The team includes a licensed mental health clinician, paramedic, homeless outreach specialist, and a Buckelew service navigator. Together, they provide on-scene evaluation, de-escalation, support, and referrals to wrap-around services.

The team led by Program Director KT Swan of Buckelew earned the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership’s Heart of Sonoma County Award for “Excellence in Innovation” in 2025.

inRESPONSE: A Circle of Care Meet Brenda

When Brenda’s daughter Emma began exhibiting dangerous behaviors, Brenda was overwhelmed. As Emma’s mental and physical health deteriorated––mania, hallucinations, paranoia, not sleeping or eating––Brenda feared Emma’s life was in danger. “I was very scared,” she said about the worst year of their lives. That’s when Brenda called inRESPONSE for support.
