What We Do

Helen Vine Recovery Center

The Helen Vine Recovery Center (HVRC) is Marin County’s only residential detox and addiction treatment facility welcoming individuals with limited financial resources and those with co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

Since 1999, we have supported over 24,000 men and women on their journeys to overcome substance use disorder, heal emotional trauma, and gain the skills to reclaim their lives.

Individualized programs include counseling, education about alcohol and drug addiction, 12-step meetings, medical services, wellness and life skills, and relapse prevention. Each client receives evidence-based, nonjudgmental care. They also are supported by our dedicated alumni community, which plays a key role in our clients’ lasting recovery. HVRC’s services connect seamlessly with Buckelew’s broader wraparound mental health and addiction treatment programs.

Highlights:

  • Short-term clinically managed (non-medical) detox
  • 30- to 90-day intensive program
  • Capacity for up to 30 adults, co-ed
  • Located in San Rafael adjacent to a nature preserve, ideal for therapeutic walks on scenic trails.

Real People, Real Recovery
Meet Taylor

Taylor tried alcohol and weed at 12, the start of a four-decade struggle with addiction. He cycled through court-ordered rehabs and brief periods of sobriety before a meth-fueled car crash and arrest finally pushed him to seek real recovery. He checked himself into to the Helen Vine Recovery Center, and that’s when he at last learned to face past traumas and live a life of love and service.

“Never once was I made to feel like a criminal or drug addict – just a person who needed help. The counselors took a genuine interest in developing a customized program for me, versus applying the same ‘one size fits all’ general treatment plan I’ve experienced elsewhere.”
