Teresa Bowman

Director of Substance Use Services

Teresa Bowman (she/her) oversees Buckelew’s Substance Use Services, which includes detox, residential treatment, and sober living homes in Marin and Sonoma counties. She’s had a distinguished career in the field, highlighted by her pivotal role in founding the Helen Vine Recovery Center (HVRC) in Marin County in 1999. Teresa’s leadership at “The Vine” earned her the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award in 2005.

In 2011, HVRC merged with Buckelew Programs, and Teresa continued as executive director. She has been instrumental in overseeing the adoption of evidence-based treatment and expanding services, including much-needed detox centers, residential treatment programs, and sober living residences between 2020-2024.

A Marin County native, Teresa began her career after graduating from Tamalpais High School and furthered her education with a degree in business from Heald’s Business College in San Francisco. She later completed U.C. Berkeley’s Alcohol and Drug Studies program and became a Certified Addiction Specialist. Today, as a leader at Buckelew, Teresa remains dedicated to advancing the organization’s substance use programs and supporting individuals with complex needs.
