Real People, Real Impacts

Read the stories of recovery, resilience, and generosity that inspire us.

Buckelew’s La Maternidad y Esperanza Program helped me during the most difficult time of my life. We were going through COVID when my daughter was 2-year-old. I couldn’t work, because I was taking care of my daughter, and then my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. Our financial situation was practically zero.
At seventeen, Lucy’s world felt overwhelming. A traumatic family event, combined with the pressures of high school and college applications, set her on a path of debilitating anxiety. “I just felt really awful, and didn’t want to feel that way ever again,” she remembers. This experience led her to seek professional support.
Growing up in the quiet town of Penngrove, Shelby appeared to have everything together. She was active in 4-H, cheerleading for her school, and loved sports. But on the inside, she was struggling with mental health challenges that her sheltered upbringing hadn’t prepared her to face. At twelve years old, Shelby was hospitalized after attempting suicide. She was released back home with a prescription for Xanax and little other support.
When Andi moved from San Francisco to the quiet community of Fairfax, she carried with her a deep understanding of what it means to feel unheard. She first connected with Buckelew not as an employee, but as a client. Andi received Counseling services that not only provided personal support but also helped pave the way for her professional goals. Today, as a Hotline Counselor for Buckelew’s Suicide Prevention Program, she’s providing the very support she once received.
When Jaldrin arrived in California from the Philippines at just four years old, he absorbed everything around him like a sponge. Hardworking and energetic, his zest for pursuing many passions shaped him into the multi-faceted man he is today.

Together, We Can Reach More People in Need

We’re in a mental health and addiction crisis. 1 in 5 adults struggled with mental health last year. 1 in 6 young people faced major depression. And 1 in 10 Americans has battled substance use. The need for behavioral health services is urgent. Buckelew is answering the call, but we can’t do it alone. Will you help us provide critical care?
