Bike4Buckelew to Benefit Buckelew Programs’ Behavioral Health Services
Fundraiser Event to Take Place on Saturday, May 14, 2022
At China Camp State Park in Marin County
Novato, CA (February 4, 2022) – Buckelew Programs, a non-profit organization with a 50-year history of helping people with mental health and substance use challenges, is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural, signature community fundraiser, Bike4Buckelew: Access to Mental Health 4 All on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at China Camp State Park in San Rafael, California.
Bike4Buckelew festivities include organized mountain bike trail rides, a 5K run or walk and an outdoor celebration with food and live entertainment. All proceeds will benefit Buckelew Programs’ wide range of services for adults and children in the North Bay including Counseling, Recovery, Service Navigation, Suicide Prevention and Supported Housing.
The Bike4Buckelew fundraiser event is centered on Buckelew Programs’ work in the community and raising broader awareness about mental health stigma. Buckelew is the largest provider of comprehensive mental health services in the North Bay for those who would otherwise not have access.
“Bike4Buckelew connects our community we serve and the natural beauty in our local environment,” said Chris Kughn, Buckelew Programs chief executive officer.“The clients we serve are experiencing behavioral health challenges and many live with serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance use. The experience of trekking up a mountain is analogous to our clients’ journey – fraught with challenges and often setbacks that offer learning opportunities. But there can be joy in this rugged journey, and beauty in empowerment.”
Members of the Bike4Buckelew Cycle Advisory include local legends Joe Breeze and Marc Vendetti, as well as Access4Bikes and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC). A private pre-event kickoff celebration will take place at the Marin Museum of Bicycling.
Buckelew Programs’ mission is to promote recovery, resilience and hope by providing behavioral health and support services that enhance quality of life. Buckelew’s wide range of services for adults and children in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake counties includes Counseling, Recovery, Service Navigation, Suicide Prevention and Supported Housing. Buckelew delivers direct services to over 3,400 clients, including substance use treatment to 900 annually in addition to answering more than1,000 calls each month through the organization’s accredited Suicide Prevention Hotline.
